Copyright Text: Criado em 2000 como um projeto da Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM), o Piatam, desde sua primeira fase, contou com o financiamento do Fundo Setorial de Petróleo e Gás Natural – CT Petro, gerido pela Finep - Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos. Desde 2002, conta também com o financiamento da Petrobras, o que permitiu o seu crescimento e transformação em um projeto sistemático e de longo prazo. Hoje, o projeto Piatam reúne cientistas e técnicos das maiores instituições de ensino e pesquisa do Amazonas, bem como pesquisadores do Centro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento da Petrobras (CENPES) e da COPPE/UFRJ, sediados no Rio de Janeiro além de instituições norte-americanas como a Washington and Lee University.
